How to Create a Daily Schedule and Stick to It

Creating a daily schedule helps to establish priorities in your life. It can give you a sense of fulfillment when you reach your goals. Sticking to that schedule can be a challenge. In a given day, several tasks may come up that require your attention. Additionally, finding the willpower to stay consistent with a schedule might vary depending on your enthusiasm for the work. Here’s our advice on creating a daily schedule and sticking to it:

Invest in a Planner

This could be a paper notebook, a word document, an application on your phone, or a notes tab. Before making the investment, consider your workflow and planning style. If you prefer to cross items off a list, you may prefer the more old fashioned approach of a pen and paper. If you are prone to losing items but always know where your phone or computer is located, consider something more tech-savvy. Whatever your preference, do research on the options available that match this approach. Then you can make the decision on what type of planner you will use confidently with a higher likelihood of success.

Plan Hourly

For a daily schedule, it is important to plan by the hour. This is an appropriate time frame in order to book meetings and complete tasks. The attention span declines after thirty minutes and wanes tremendously after an hour. Using the Pomodoro method, you can factor in small breaks hourly. However, planning by the hour will ensure you stay on track for a day’s work.

Schedule in Time for Yourself

If your schedule fills with tasks dedicated to other people exclusively, consider the cup metaphor. You can only fill another’s cup as much as you fill your own cup. Plan time not only around others but also yourself. By factoring in your individual needs, you will be of greater service to those around you when they require your help.

To create a daily schedule and to stick to it, you should try investing in a planner, scheduling activities by the hour, and factoring in time for yourself.
